Hello, I am Maggie. Welcome to my blog. I am a college professor and a mom of a 3-year-old. I thoroughly enjoy cooking and I like to do a little bit of writing too. Hence this food blog :). I capture these recipes as I make everyday food for my family, and I draft blog posts during my free time. It keeps me busy but I love it very much. Especially since I am learning so much every day!
My Blog and Its Title
I chose to call this blog ‘Diverse Dishes and Lifestyle‘ because my goal is to post recipes and lifestyle-related content from around the world. I was born in Kenya and I moved to the United States in my early 20s. As someone who loves to explore new recipes, I make all sorts of dishes from around the world. The United States is a melting pot of cultures. It has exposed me to so much variety and driven me crazy with endless options of recipes to try. However, in this blog, I will mainly focus on East African and American dishes because those are the ones that I make frequently. Don’t be surprised, though, if you find a particularly amazing Nigerian, Mexican, or Thai recipe here. That’s just me. I hope you enjoy exploring my blog, fall in love with the recipes or lifestyle content, learn something new, and keep coming back.
The Level of Detail in the Blogposts
You will notice that in most of my blog posts, I give quite a lot of detail. That’s probably the teacher in me – we tend to explain things a lot. I hope it does not come off as mansplaining, though. My approach in this food blog is to equip those who might have limited cooking experience with as much helpful information as possible to enable them to make a tasty dish. I do this because I understand that there are many people out there who often wish to make a dish but don’t know how or where to start. Besides, this being a ‘diverse dishes’ blog, there may always be a dish that someone is learning about for the first time. I think the details, including a bit of history or cultural anecdotes about the dish whenever necessary, might be helpful in such cases. So, don’t get tired of my wordiness 🙂
My YouTube Channel
I launched a YouTube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/@DiverseDishesandLifestyle24) soon after I started this blog to complement it. I post all my recipe videos there and link them to the recipe cards in the blog posts herein. You can watch the recipe videos directly here on the blog or you can choose to watch them on YouTube. Please note that in most cases, the recipe video is at the very bottom of the post. Just keep scrolling and you’ll find it.
My Publications
As I mentioned earlier, I enjoy writing as much as I do cooking. I have over twenty publications out in the market so far, mainly in the areas of Early Learning and Activity Books. The Early Learning books are mostly picture books for kids aged 1-4 years. The Activity Books are word search puzzles and coloring books for all age groups. I got the motivation to publish these books from being a mom to a little one who needed these kinds of books, then it grew to something bigger. I have also published some very cute journal notebooks and planners along with the aforementioned books. All of my publications are available for purchase on Amazon, and this is the link to my Amazon Author Page.
In the sections that follow, I have included the pictures of my published books per category with direct links to Amazon for each book. Please take a look to see which ones suit your needs. Don’t forget to share your thoughts if you do check them out! If you purchase one, please do leave a review.
My Latest Publication (January 2024)
This picture book is titled “A-Z Food Items; A-Z Everyday Things; A-Z Animals.” It has up to 5 items per letter in each category, thus 300+ vocabulary in total as pictured below.
