Steps to make white bread (sandwich bread)

  1. Place warm water in a bowl. Add sugar and yeast and whisk until well combined.
  2. Add flour and salt. Fold in with a spatula or simply mix with clean hands just until all flour is absorbed into the dough.
  3. Add vegetable oil and knead until smooth.
  4. Cover and let the dough rise for one hour (first proofing).
  5. Punch the air out. Then, sprinkle a little flour on your work surface and place the dough on the surface. Spread the dough a little into an oval shape, then shape it into a loaf by folding it into a roll. Ensure that the length of the roll is just a little under the length of the loaf pan you are using. As the loaf rises, it will fill up the pan.
  6. Place the loaf on a greased and dusted loaf pan. Cover and let it rise for around 45 minutes (second proofing) or until it rises well above the loaf pan.
  7. Bake the loaf at 350F for 35-40 minutes. NOTE: If the loaf starts to brown too early, cover it with an aluminum foil tent. It will slow down the browning as well as ensure even browning of the loaf.
  8. Once ready, allow the loaf to cool down in the loaf pan for 5-10 minutes, then transfer it to a cooling rack for further cooling. Do not let it cool fully in the pan as it will sweat and get soggy. Slice and enjoy as desired!
