To achieve that tantalizing, crispy bacon result, you have to bake it. Baking bacon in the oven comes with several advantages which can be summed up as less work on your side, and tastier, delightful bacon for you to savor. Check out the sections below on why baked bacon is king. Also, the quick and easy steps you will need to follow to prepare it.
Advantages of Baking Bacon in the Oven
Tantalizing crispy bacon
Ever been served bacon that simply made you sad (or mad)? I bet that bacon wasn’t baked. If it was, then it just wasn’t handled properly. Which is a shame. Soggy and chewy bacon is the last thing anyone ever wants to eat, and that’s why this guide is here. Bake it and you will love it because the dry heat of the oven which is also evenly distributed throughout the cooking period will give you crispier and tastier bacon.
Evenly cooked bacon
Your bacon will cook evenly in the oven because of the oven’s steady and evenly distributed heat. The result will have that uniform and extremely appetizing look with no burnt or darkened sections. Barely cooked, pink patches in your bacon will also be a thing of the past. Just set the temperature right and follow all the steps below to the latter, and you will be happy you did.
Straight bacon strips
Your baked bacon strips will come out straight and good-looking, which makes it even more appetizing. As they say, food presentation matters. You want to serve yourself and others good-looking bacon that is not coiled and twisted in all manner of ways. This is achievable, thanks to the oven.
Timesaving method
With baking, you can prepare a huge amount of bacon in no time at all. You can use several trays and have many strips of bacon ready at a go, as opposed to stove-top cooking where you can only make so many strips at once. Baking, therefore, is the best option, especially for those with large families or if you are preparing meals to store for later use.
Novice-cook friendly
This is an important one. Baking bacon requires less effort and is probably much safer than pan-frying. Not everyone is an experienced cook. Some people are simply scared of turning on the stove (not even kidding), not to think of handling a skillet with popping oil particles when pan-frying bacon. Not many are built for that. Using the oven seems like a better and safer option for novice cooks because all they need to do is follow the oven temperature and timing instructions, and the rest involves just two simple actions – placing the tray with bacon in the oven and taking it out when ready.
Easy clean-up after cooking
Clean-up after cooking is much easier with baked bacon as this recipe also notes. This is an important factor because there are many people out there who love bacon but choose not to make it the moment they think of all the grease and the messiness that is associated with bacon preparation. Well, not with baking. As I’ve explained further in the steps below, all you will need is aluminum foil or parchment paper to cover your baking tray.
With all that said, here are the steps you will follow to achieve that tantalizing, crispy bacon. All you need is the bacon itself, a tray, and a piece of aluminum foil or parchment paper.

Additional Tips on Cooking Tantalizing Crispy Bacon
- Bake thick-cut bacon a little longer than thin-cut bacon. Adjust cooking time accordingly depending on the type you are making.
- Your bacon may cook in less or more minutes than those mentioned in this recipe depending on factors such as the calibration of your oven, the level of fat in your bacon, etc. Therefore, these minutes should only serve as a guide. The most important thing is for you to check the bacon at least 3 times throughout the cooking period to decide whether it needs more or less time to be ready.
- Aluminum foil is perfect for baking bacon. It catches all the grease and all you need to do for clean-up is let the grease cool down and solidify, then fold the foil up and toss it in the trash. Make sure to use a long enough and unbroken piece that will fold over the edges of the baking tray.
