Swahili Around the World

Swahili, spoken by over 200 million people across East Africa and beyond, is one of the fastest-growing languages in the world. Its influence extends far beyond the African continent, thanks to its role as a lingua franca for trade, education, and diplomacy. You may notice that in this blog, I mostly talk about Swahili dishes and their respective recipes. Even when I touch on other cultural aspects of the Swahili-speaking people, they are mostly pertaining to food as well. Today, however, I am focusing on a topic that is a little different albeit very closely related to the ones I have written about before: exploring the richness of Swahili literature. It is a fun topic for me to write about since I enjoy reading Swahili literature besides teaching it to my American students.
